Theme & Idol Artist: Parthapratim Roy
A deep red planetarium-style structure with some paintings on the wall stands on the playground. Inside the pandal, clouds of cotton wool float. According to artist, Our land is so fertile yet Bengal has seen famines. We pray to the goddess of vegetation so there are no more famines.
2017, MATRIRUPEN SANGSTHITA
Theme Artist: Tarun Ghosh
Idol Artist: Indranath Pal
The economy is in the doldrums. So Durga is being worshipped as Laxmi. Instead of weapons, she holds a container full of paddy. The pandal is being decked up in articles related to the storage of paddy, the symbol of prosperity-kunke, dhama, kulo etc. The pandal itself looks like a dhanergola. Between the two gates in front, two owls, Laxmi’s mounts, stand guard. At the centre, a panchapradeep has been installed upside down, indicating the state of the market. Along with the market, there is a threat to the communal fabric. So on the walls, flowers of harmony bloom but the masks at its feet, standing for people of different communities, fail to reach their height
